Graduation is now only 360 days away. May 12th. Woefully still short of the million ideas and woefully short of paying for this beast. Finishing core rotations next week. Going to Pensacola FL. in two weeks. Residency choices are FM, IM, or Psychiatry with leanings towards IM at this point.

The second meeting of the idea shed has been held.The most disturbing thing we faced was when we first walked in the Waffle King three people were hogging the only table big enough for all of us to fit in comfortably.We all had to crowd around a little booth. We then ordered our usual meal of biscuits and gravy.The first order of business was to decide if we wanted to buy a new basket ball. Our leader for the month, who was Sebastian, brought it to a vote and it was unanimous, we decided to buy a basketball. Then our food came and we put our business on hold and ate our food. After we were done eating, the next thing we brought up was that I needed to finish the book I was reading, which is how to program an iPhone app. We decided that I had to finish it in two weeks or I will have to wash the suburban for a year. Dad also said he has to lose 10 lbs
in one month or he will sign up for a 10K run. We then discussed several more things such as getting hair cuts, the super bowl, and football for next year's season. Then we elected a new leader for the month. We elected Nick as our next leader. Then we paid for our meal and went to Walmart and bought a new basketball.I drove home and the second meeting of the bricks and mortar idea shed was closed.

Nic Miller Today we went to waffle king; we did this as the first meeting of the "Bricks And Morter Idea shed". This name in other words means the idea shed in the flesh, the group of "Brains"(Greg, Alex, Nic, Elliot, and Sebastian) behind the idea shed. Anyway when we got to "the king" we immediately ordered 5 platters of biscuits'n'gravy and 5 cups of coffee. Alex immediately started the meeting by dumping loads of sugar and cream into his coffee --in my opinion sugared coffee is no longer coffee but cappachino. Before we started eating we laid several ground rules in case our little circle ever turned into a mass meeting including people who wanted to do rotten to our club. Ground rule (1)meetings will be approximately 1.5 hours long (2) Elliot will be our official time keeper.The (3)rd rule was nominated by the benefactor(dad), this rule was that the senior member of the the meeting would be called "Da Boss"(4) it was at this time that I made the suggestion to give "Da Boss" Veto power over all rules if things get out of hand. This is when Alex (with a sudden surge of intellect)said that in other words we were giving dad "Carte Blanche".

We also gave "Da Boss" 2 votes in regular voting situations.(5)This rule was followed by a law that stated that when someone stated the words "I have an idea" conversation would/will cease and all meeting participants will respectfully listen to the idea. We also found out that the first time Alex wanted to play football was when he was 4 at the time dad took him to a Walhalla Razorbacks football game. Who would've thought this could've led to picking off Mr.Football of T.N. as the starting Cornerback for the Cumberland Gap Panthers 12 years later.

we then decided to write this idea down as a commercial opportunity. We then had a long discussion about the subconscious mind. Mentally chew on this, when you shoot a bow and arrow it is repetition that makes you good at it, you practice that one fluid motion of pulling the bow back and shooting. What makes you good is when the subconscious takes over, that is why it is so important to practice pulling the bowstring back the same way every time after you have done it the same way 9000000000 times it becomes subconscious you no longer have to think about exactly where the bow is aimed your subconscious does that for you, this is where imagining success comes in, if you imagine yourself successful for 5 minutes a day your subconscious will work on getting you there, granted this all goes along with prayer and hard work but it is imperitive to imagine yourself successful. So think about it you can do anything you want to within the parameters of God's will look at the prime example the tower of Babel if God had not intervened who knows how high the tower of Babel could've been built,they might have built into outer space and discovered everything we know about outer space centuries ago+think about the experience advantages these guys had,they could live to 1000 years old. It goes to show that "if you can dream it, you can do it". Finally I got this great idea if the subconscious is what gets things done we need to imagine what we want to be every night before we go to bed, our subconscious will then work it out in your dreams all night.After our brainstorming session was over (during which dad and I consumed 4-5 cups of coffee each) we had to do an old trademark thank you for a very tasty meal after asking the cashier we went behind the counter and gave the cook (his name was Johnny) a YUM!!! YUM!!! YUM!!! Lastly, on the way home dad realized he had forgotten his glasses(TO MUCH COFFEE!!!).And that wrapped up the first meeting of "The Idea Shed " which we figured out would have 780 meetings between MARCH.20.2011 and March.20.2071 (when dad turns 100)

Interleukin 2...IL-2. and IL-3

The next IL we introduce is a signal caller that is involved in some key activations. We represented IL-2 with a QB named Matt Ryan...Matt is a 3rd year QB for the Atlanta Falcons. We said he was mentored by two tailbacks who we will call Thomas (Th) and what Matt does in Atlanta is help to promote the development of his offensive line (the Helper T Cells) and an incredible "linebacker killing" fullback (cytotoxic T Cell)

IL-3 is a Quarterback for the Panthers named Matt Moore....We imagined that he was brought up and mentored by an old Tight end in the league..Tony Gonzalez (activated T Cell) TG is activated because he still plays regularly and contributes to his team. So Moore #3 was helped out by Gonzalez and in turn Moore being a generous dude we said probably helps promote little kids community football in develpmental leagues (bone marrow stem cells)..For this we give him a title of GM-CSF--General Manager of Community Scrub Football.

So last night my son Elliot and I were going to watch the new TEBOW play (Nick #15) and I asked him to help me learn some medical terminology..Now this is some of the most boring terminology you can get..Interleukin's and what they do in immunology..So we decided to make it fun. So now in never before published form is the new NFL/High School version of Interleukin methodology preserved for all generations to see in the future and to never forget. Boring but important....for you see, interleukins are the bodies way of signaling other parts of the bodies when and how to fight defensively to keep infection at bay...and infection is out there all the time attempting to wrest health from us... and so it really is like a football game all the time..

Let me first introduce some terminology and who they are represented by then we will tell the story.

IL-1--This is represented by an all everything guy named J. Jenkin. a football player of a local high school. He was taught by defensive coaches so we say that he was secreted by macrophages to clean up situations especially messed up by our offense. He is a go to the ball kind of guy and so he looks to get in "messy situations" and bring other players to the scene to help out thus he represents IL-1's ability to recruit white blood cells and activates the ends (endothelium) to express their hands and arms (adhesion molecules) in other words..this dude is a town crier on the football team a fire Crier....COME OVER HERE..WE NEED HELP NOW!!!!

Light day...on rotations...nice way to slowly get back into work..The hot water has been getting really hot lately and I had suspicions of a problem with the element..Called up the landlord and she sent the plumber over...Joe (not his real name) shows up..good ole Tn boy...he looks at the water heater and says after a while..well we'll just replace it but there ain't nobody open tonight so I will get it tomorrow afternoon..No problem said I as long as we can get it fixed...1/2 an hour later the landlord calls and says that Joe is coming over soon and is going to fix it now..(nice....) When he showed up he told me that he was going to work on another job and somehow his backhoe wasn't available so now he was freed up to fix the hot water heater...ok what is the truth....I don't care...In this land of no Lowes and Home Depot..who knows if there is a place open..Anyway....the nice thing is the hot water is working again.....

Been a while but I am back

635 days in a row is the new goal for this blog....Graduation is now in sight and we are on the downward slope.......I am currently doing a rotation in family medicine here in Harrogate TN...seeing patients all day long and loving it (most of the time) next month I take the month off and then I begin a long unbroken string of rotations that will hopefully end in May 2012 on the stage in Harrogate TN...Hard to believe we are 100 days past half way and rolling on...Praise the Lord for his faithfulness and for the prayers and support of family. Alex and Nick are both going to Cumberland Gap High school and playing football. Jenn and the younger kiddos have launched back into home schooling.,,,and i get to go to clinic and study...not much has changed but it seems like a lot less pressure is on me now.....still the challenges of paying for this education is daunting but I believe that somehow the right idea is still forthcoming....and I still hope for a major debt reduction before the end is here..only635 days for it to happen but I can still hope....No looking back, keep charging forward....

Discovered why last semester was so busy....Looking at my grades (all passed ---thank you Jesus) I found out we had 32 credit hours in the fall...(Good part is we are 78% of the way through the book part of medical school)

Well it is January 4, 2010 and we are back in class. We are on the horse once more and riding for a meeting with a HUGE test Boards part I on June 14, 2010... Bristol Va.. 9am. to 6pm...to determine what i KNOW or how well do I take standardized tests.. depending on your degree of cynicism... I want to attest to God's continued provision in finances and help in my studies...

Jennifer and the home-schooled portion of our kids are also starting back today and Alexander has his first day of the new year as well...Its been a great break but its time to get back into the fire again...

Jennifer is going to be working in a little local coffee shop for a few hours/week this spring and Nick is wanting to see if he can begin working out with the High school team that Alex is going to...so lots of fun and change....

Hello all....sorry I have been away..

Am in the middle of Cardiology....Passed the first test and then it was right onto studying for the next one...Can't hardly believe it already but I am starting to think about arranging my schedule for rotations next year... We have about 6-8 core hospitals in this area we will be working out of for at least the first 6 months of next year...and then we have a bunch of electives we can do....I am open to suggestions from the audience about what electives I should engage in....Nuclear medicine, radiology..Underwater medicine...International medicine.....The sky is the limit as they say....Should be fun...

Psoas Syndrome; Extended Sacrum; Flexed Sacrum

So we have an OMT test tomorrow and one of the things we may be tested on is something called Psoas Syndrome...Highlights of a Psoas syndrome include:

Low Back Pain.

Involves the Psoas muscle which attaches along your lumbar spine at about T12 -L4 and goes all the way down to attach on your Femur muscle where it assists you in externally rotating your leg and lifting it..Your observations will show you that the patient is Sidebent in the Lumbar spine and has an Everted Foot on that side. Interestingly the piriformis on the other side of has a problem as well and can be in spasm.

Other low back pain possibilities.. You can have a Flexed Sacrum where what happens is you were involved in arching backwards or catching yourself from falling backwardsIn this kind of lesion you actually feel more comfortable standing than sitting.

Extended Sacrum:

This could occur when you were lifting heavy objects and you find it difficult to stand upright. This makes it difficult to stand upright..

What's the deal with Strep throat...

We have been doing a lot of studying recently on the heart as some of you may know...

In studying for my boards part I which are coming up next June, I have already begun to review all that I have studied up to this point in my medical education..hard to believe its coming so quickly..Anyway as a way to keep my avid readers abreast of the most current literature in today's modern medical world I am going to give you little bits and pieces of useful information so you can become well-informed consumers of our health care system (hopefully not Obama-Care)

One of the first topics I am going to tackle is Microbiology---

The first Bug I am going to tackle is the guy that everyone worries about when you get a sore throat.

Strep...The full name being Streptococcus Pyogenes---Pie-oj-e-knees---

The quick and dirty on what you worry about with this one is

1Kid gets a sore throat...(you're not sure but let's say he gets this bug --Streptococcus Pyogenes

2.Doesn't get treated.....a week later...sore throat is better

3.Most times that is what happens..Sometimes however, the person's body makes antibodies against the Strep Pyogenes..No big deal, right.

4. In this case however it is a big deal because then those antibodies which the person's body made against the bug, run around the body and end up in the heart where they mess with the muscle of the heart and you end up with Rheumatic Fever, a serious probably life-altering problem when it probably could have been fixed with one course of antibiotics...

That's why you want to treat the Sore throat, not because of the Sore throat but to prevent the chance of Rheumatic Fever .

The number difference is why our profession doesn't have as much exposure in comparsion to the MD world. The relationship between the two is excellent for the most part and at a lot of hospitals and group practices you see MDs and DO's working alongside each other all the time...

This is actually brilliant marketing technique and one that I am sure to adopt and encourage others to use. College Fund Landscaping.. What's not to like about it.

For the following reasons...

A. Its not "Beer Fund Landscaping"--This does not have a pleasant ring and anyone with this kind of title would surely not get much business.

B. Its not "Vacation Fund Landscaping" Although this is more acceptable it does not still invite participation.

C. Americans love to help out those who are trying to help themselves, so this kind of approach has a lot of potential.......

The interesting people and speakers in the world are those people who take information and put their own spin on it. Not speakers who basically don't have the time to put together a presentation and instead they go on the www. and download some presentation that someone else put together and present it. Even if they give credit for the presentation to the original creator it doesn't help the presentation. Yea, there is a dearth of originality. Please can we have a return to it.

I was evaluated today on my performance with a standardized patient where I had the "not so fun" prospect of telling a practice patient "bad news". In addition to it being bad news was included in the scenario that my practice had dropped the ball and not told the patient about a possible cancerous lesion on their lungs from 4 months ago. How to explain that? and the emotions you feel about it were kind of tough? Its all a part of the process..

If you are EVER in a conversation that you really don't want to be in but you're just there and you can't escape it ....and you feel your mind wandering.....(will this person please leave me alone?) and suddenly horror of horrors you find they have just asked your opinion and you suddenly have no clue what you were supposed to have been paying attention to....Here is the solution....

First...don't panic.....2nd Look reflective...(stroke the chin...a beard or slight scruff helps here) and then say very slowly........Well , you know what they always say..."You can never tell which way the train went just by looking at the tracks"...

At this point you are off the hook...If at this point they are astute and ask you "What do you mean by that?" you have two recourses....You can tell them you really weren't listening? or you can slowly shake your head and just walk away indicating the conversation is over and you believe they just don't get it....

I have really only used this method once or twice (I really am a nice guy) with some success..

Its funny how little thing catch your eye and you want to adopt them into your own life..I think for me the whole spinning out of control that the world seems to be in lends me to look more to the things that I can control myself. I really can't do much about the war in Iraq, gas prices, the price of "cheap stuff" in china, etc...But the one thing I can do is control my attitude and my thoughts..and the way I get new thoughts is get good ideas..

Yes, you in the back of the class....your question was? Where do we get good ideas? I get some good ones from God..

I also get good ideas from other people...People like Louis Pasteur, Chuck Swindol, Chief Mac..Ask me about that one some time?

I will never forget my favorite cartoon from my childhood..We used to get the afternoon edition of the Index Journal from Greenwood SC.....By the way, when did evening newspapers go away, and why? Duh....we all know why...This beast we call the inter---whatever...

Anyway I digress. my favorite cartoon was Beetle Bailey in the pouring rain putting up the sign..."When the going gets tough, the tough get going" come to think of it, I am not even sure if this is an original Beetle Bailey quote, probably isn't but it has become a favorite motto of mine years.. Rarely do I live up to it....but that's my goal....life is what you make of it...Keep moving....

Basically at my current rate of funding through this site.. I will need approximately 145,408,163 hits over the next 2.5 years on my site to completely fund my education...whew!!!

boy its really good to get the numbers down to where you can see them... its hard to start on a goal when you don't have some firm numbers.. Ok there is the challenge......only 145,408,163 minus the 2063 page impressions I have received so far and I walk across the stage with no debt.....To all you naysayers I say...well...it certainly won't happen if I don't try will it....why if just half of the U.S. at some time in the next four years looked at my site....I will have this puppy licked.....There is an idea for the ages... Study is a funny thing....you never feel you get enough to prepare for a test. And then there are odd moments when you get in a groove and you are having aha moments everywhere and the old brain is really firing and you are lovng it.. Then you sink in another period of just getting by and slugging through it... The nice thing would be if you could know when the aha moments are coming and forget studying other times.......Kind like have a little monitor that says...."you are about to enter a zone of increased memory fertility, if you would like to enter data, now would be a great time to do it" I guess its like the mountain top experiences that are so few and far between in our lives....they are great but you can't get anything done on top of the mountain......there is a song like that ...." you must go through the valley to stand upon the mountain of GOD" ok give me the valley of study so I can stand on that stage.....Cause its coming.........

So I am riding my bike home the other day and I had my neighbor pull up beside me in his truck and hollered out.."pull your bike up in the yard"...I'll fix it for you...

Oh my word!!! how could someone insult me like this..Sure...my bike isn't the most beautiful thing in the world...and yes it squeaks like a siren everytime I pedal and its hard as all get out to pedal and the back tire looks like it is so out of whack it wobbles like a newbie hula hoop user...But come on where is the professional distance, the respect of a bike's personal space..... Bike's have feelings too.... Or maybe as a true cyclist, he was responding to the bike's cry for help....Perhaps...

Well he fixed it...and it works like 50 million times better and it actually doesn't wear me out...and I actually have a little pride in it again and he added a flashing light to the back and a flashlight holder to the front....Ok ok......I am very happy he stopped me and I really wasn't offended... but should I be????

Well my son took his first big hit of his football career today...and survived...The funny thing was he said he wasn't running his hardest down the field, not totally giving it his all when he got nailed..Some kid blocked him in the gut and gave him a wake up call...OOPH!!! He did manage to get off the field with his head held high before he doubled up in pain...

I am very proud of him.....he is without complaint putting in some serious tough days in the pursuit of his dream....l

There's a lesson for all of us that feel like playing it safe all the time...Go halfway and you might get the hit of your life...OUCH!!!

Any comments on the passing of Whispering Pines Mennonite School into the pages of history... Where is the nostalgia...the sentimental among us..An ode perhaps..

What is the color of the number 4? 4 has many interesting characteristics among them being the following.. Consider that 4 is the only number that two numbers that result in it as a sum also result in it when they are multiplied by each other (ie. 2X2 =4 and 2+2 =4)

Considering as well that the square root of 4 is 2 makes this even more amazing... 4 is an amazing number....This is not original with me...but it reminds me of a guy I knew in college named Jonathan D. who said that when they were kids in the back seat of their car traveling somewhere their dad (who was obsessed with the above discussion about 4) would start coming down hard on the kids for being rowdy or whatever kids do in the back seat and their attempt to distract him would be to call out.. Hey dad....where is your research on the number 4 at these days..and he would be so thrilled that someone was interested in this subject that he would promptly launch into a discussion of where his current thinking on the subject was and totally forget about the reprimand that had been forthcoming.....Kids...learn way to fast.....

Sunday--Day of Rest

Whew!! made it to the weekend. Attended Pump Springs Baptist Church today for a lively service..Rejuvenate for another weekend. Here's a wild story for all of you edge-dwellers.

A friend of mine from CO had decided at the last minute that he wanted to transfer to another medical school this past week if it was still possible. After he was planning to move here to TN from CO and he and his family began packing, he had rented the U-haul and told them he was moving to TN, he gets a call with the offer to go to Nevada and go to school there. So after pondering that decision for about 10 min. wiht hsi wife and family, he decided to go there, he has to go back to the U-haul place and tell them...Oh by the way, we are no longer going east to TN, instead we are going west to Nevada...No worries just decided didn't want to go east, we want to go west. Its a crazy world.. For him and his family it will be the best as they are from California and his wife's family is there about 2.5 hours from school instead of 35 hours from Californina to TN...Anyway I would have loved to have the opportunity to study with him for another year, but I am glad for his family that this has worked out for them...Living on the edge...

Good morning all....Saturday morning in medical school is different than the laid back days of summer. The morning starts at around 6:00 with guess what study (after a little Oswald Chambers). The problem is you have this false sense of security that you have a whole weekend to catchup but the reality with taking off tomorrow that aint no option and I am only 12 lectures behind..nothing major..Hey I chose this and I love it..

I am proud of Alexander my oldest son as he is choosing to do "hard things" not settlling for mediocrity... Push yourself. Do not be satisified with the easy way out. You can relax and sleep in heaven.. You are going to have a longggggggg time to do that...

We are learning some really cool ways to treat people with flu and sinus trouble in our osteopathic manipulation lab right now. I was on the table this morning as a "practice patient". I have had some sinus issues and some "stoppage" and drainage. When we learned the Galbreath technique for releasing the manidibular joint, the guy who was practicing on me completed the technique which is basically a distraction of the mandible...It was amazing. I literally felt the mucus draining out of my head and down into my throat... I LUV this stuff......

Here is an idea for years 3 and 4. After my 6 months of core rotations in TN...I have a lot more flexibility in where I train.. Motorhome around the country from rotation to rotation. 4 weeks at a pop.. Kids are homeschooled so that is taken care of and what a cultural experience for them..Better yet, try to get rotations at Schools only on the top ten of the U.S. News and World Report...hey its an idea...

School is going great and I did not have Corn flakes for Breakfast.

Ok these posts are not huge...but at least I'm consistent..Plus I am kinda busy. Ok I know everyone else is too.. I have ridden my bike for 3 days straight to school, something I don't believe I did at all last year..Its a cool 10 minute ride with the whole first 1/2 mile downhill..

Now that is a real pain when you go home but 1st thing in the morning its great. I am trying to not resort to Facebook tactics such as "I am fixing myself cornflakes now"...and I really generally use 2% milk but this morning I used whole milk..etc... so I plan to not bore you with details..

maybe you would be more intrigued that I studied till 1:00 am. and got back up to study at 5:35..Nice...The terror this year is palpable again but I actually enjoy it (the terror) yes..I am possibly weird.. but after the summer we have had, its a welcome relief... 3 in a row baby....

Today we started the study of blood as year 2 got under way..Take home fact for the day..Why do you need to worry about cholesterol, HDL, LDL, VDL.. A Great Birthday Celebration..

I am officially 39 and holding and loving it...

Thanks to some friends from S.C. we went to the "oldest restaurant in Denver" The Buckhorn Exchange..for dinner last evening and had choice of among many "wild" things, yak alligator tail, and rattlesnake. "Sir, your rattlesnake will be right out" was a comment we heard behind us.

This dude who started the restaurant was Pres. Teddy Roosevelt's guide back in the day. Chief Sitting Bull was also a friend.

Wonderful evening a a great way to celebrate my birthday and then today one year ago, I found out I got accepted. Its been a wild ride and whole lot of fun so far...Thanks to all who have helped make this possible and continue to do so...

I think I just bombed the OPP midterm practical.....We had to go in and diagnose an ankle, name the problem associated with it and then treat it.. I keep telling myself this is really a game and you have to figure out how to play it. The physician makers are responsible to "push" us to the limit without pushing us "over the edge"....Yahhhhhhhh. What a rush...

"Ok you have a test on Monday and another Test on Tuesday and a "brief" 4 page paper on Wednesday (with "solid" references)..Don't forget that major presentation on Thurs..(don't prep more than oh 6-8 hours for that) and oh yeh by the way..you have a quiz on Friday where I will do my best to trick you. Oh, in addition I got some great news today...you remember I said I couldn't get you in to shadow a physician this week, guess what? I got an opening for you on Friday afternoon (just when you wanted to be studying for Monday). You get to rush out of your quiz Friday morning and drive an 1 hour to Colorado Springs....Bummer, you won't really be able to do much study for the test today will you I'm sorry, but surely you should be able to sit down and memorize the Benzodiazepenes, Anti-psychotics (atypical), Anti-psychotics (typical) TCA's, the MOAi's, all the major mood disorders and what sets them apart on Saturday and Sunday (if you so choose) But don't worry, you are not going to know 50% of what's on the test on Monday anyway.

We're teaching you to think here! and that's what's important. Besides you won't have to think on Monday after the test anyway, because you will be getting ready for the next test on Tuesday....One big relief, we're sure you will appreciate you don't have to put that shadowing write up in until Tuesday afternoon right when you will be working on the "brief" 4 page paper for Wednesday....Oh by the way...enjoy your weekend...have some fun out there. the weather is great and you know...you shouldn't neglect your exercise and sleep..

End of Musculoskeletal system....

We finished the first of our systems courses yesterday...A "big" 106 point (30 page) test was the capstone...3 hours long and whew! was I tanked after that one. Four of us "senior" members (we refer to ourselves as the "Gentleman's Club" went out for pizza afterwards to debrief about the test and otherwise to let out some stress..Then I took the afternoon off and played scrabble with my wife and worked out with Alexander...

Next system is Human Behavior..Should be interesting...

I am trying to be a little more transparent and keep you'all updated more..But then at the last moment before posting I get the writer's block..like Nah they don't want to read that..Well I am overcoming that and going to press on and show you what is really going on in my day a little more.

I am sitting here at 1:00 pm MST getting ready for a Large Group Interactive Session at the Rocky Vista University..Its mostly a class where you interact with a lot of other medical students and faculty to figure out cases presented and then you talk about them (in front of everyone).

The "wonderful" part is at the end you have a small quiz over the material which can be at times nerve-wracking in its own right! I have learned there are no "low-stakes" quizzes in Medical school. Too quote a popular song, you constantly need " your game on"

This semester has definitely started off with a bang and so far it has definitely felt less intense than last which is a good thing. Maybe we are just more comfortable with how much is coming at us. Anyway Thanks to the faithful few who read my blog.. When it has a million hits/day..You will be remembered....

Hello all and thanks for the readership..Latest ideas have been slim.. However a new medical school in Florida has got the concept that is interesting. They have raised enough money to send all of their first year students through their entire four years for "FREE"... That's right totally free tuition.. What do you think their application cycle looks like... They have already had more applications than Harvard or Yale.. Seems in this economy everyone would like a lot for a little.. if you know what I mean..

Its interesting that this may be the future trend as tuition keeps rising. Communities or hospitals paying for tuition for their future students. Jenn and I keep thinking and praying and believing that there has to be a way to pay for this school without being in Astronomical amounts of debt.. Believe and keep your head up and something good is bound to happen.

Well the semester continues to fly along.. In 5 weeks from now, I will be licking my wounds and looking towards Christmas and the new year.

Another Day and Night in the books... I took my 24 off from Saturday night around 6 til Sunday around 7:30.. Then Studied till 3:00 A.M. Gotta love the coffee... Anyway back up at 7.. More study till 8:30.. Attended one lecture at 9:oo.. Then more anatomy till about 1:15...

This afternoon we had a 2 hour case study session where we are learning how to diagnose genetic and pediatric diseases and then we had a quiz after that 4/5 is only 80% but I am happy... Every little bit helps on this journey...

Came home and played football at our field up the street for an hour and then its back to the books....Have a huge quiz in anatomy on Thursday afternoon and I will put around 25-30 hours in studying for it... Ouch! I never knew I would say that for a quiz....

Its amazing how time is flying.. We are 6 weeks away from the end of the first semester and a week break is in the middle of that for thankksgiving....

Hi from Denver... I am posting from the Mile High City on what may be the night before the big Snow....

We are all doing great... My days and nights are consumed with study. That is really not an excuse for not penning a few thoughts occasionally... Look for some renewed commitments and much better coverage towards the end of this year and the beginning of next....

Still well short of the million ideas... but then my faithful readers haven't been putting any in lately either...

Anyone with some suggestions please feel free to comment and email... We need some more momentum...

Right now my fascinating studies take me into the head and neck region where we have to basically learn all the nerves, arteries veins of the head and neck and be able to locate them in the body in a practical.... Seems like an impossible task at times but what a challenge and a cure for any mid-life crisis feelings one might have.....

I have also enjoyed tremendously the diversity we have in our class... People from all over the U.S. all kind of thrown together to study the body and how it works.

My apologies to my readers for the lack of updates on my site..

Life has taken a right turn and turned on the speed.. Suffice it to say.. I have studied more in the last week than I studied in 6 months of undergraduate... The amount of work assigned is "incredible".. At this point... please no one say... See, I told you so...! I am here

We are doing well as a family..

Jenn's family have all been here over the past 3 weeks and they have been a great help...

We have made some friends and I have some study partners that is helping to get this information in my cranium...

First Day!

Monday was a surreal experience. It was like the day to pinch oneself and realize that yes.. Indeed after years of dreaming about attending medical school and becoming a doctor, I was actually sitting in a seat with 159 other students getting ready to embark on a whole phase of my life.

It was awesome!

The inaugural class has 160 students. 80 men and 80 women.

It was cool to sit there and contemplate all the different stories of the people that are here to get there medical education and on top of that be a part of the opening of a brand-new school.

The faculty were great and did an incredible job of making all feel welcome and at home. We are on an adventure together and it is great. I think I shocked a few people yesterday with my "full quiver" and the fact that I had just caught my 6 th child the day before I started medical school.

Jennifer and the baby are doing great. As the song says...Hold Fast..... help is on the way.........
Jenns sister and her family are coming towards the end of the week and her mom will follow in a few weeks...
